Xbox 360 E3 Announcements

There are too many announcements to cover at this point but I will try to cover most of the big one’s. Microsoft’s press conference revealed a couple of interesting surprises, Halo Combat Evolved anniversary edition was announced. It is a remake of the original Halo Combat Evolved and it will now feature co op, multiplayer online, and revamped graphics. The game will be released on November 11th of this year, and the surprisingly the game will only cost $40. Check out the trailer below
The next surprise announcement was Halo 4, the trilogy will continue next year. Sadly it will not be out until next year, but at least we got a nice teaser for the game. Also it was announced that Halo 4 will be the first game in the new trilogy, so effectively they announced Halo 4, 5, and 6. This will be the first major Halo game not helmed by bungie, so we will find out if Halo will continue to have the impact on gaming that it has so far. Check out the teaser below.
The conference also showed the importance Microsoft is putting on the casual audience, there were a ton of kinect games catered to the casual market. For the casual audience this is a great thing, and for sales probably a really great direction for them. But the hardcore market was definitely not the main concern of MS, so it kind of stinks for us. It would have been nice for a few more surprise announcements for hard core games. Kinect Labs they announced and released yesterday, it lets people create different things for kinect and share them. Disneyland kinect game and once upon a monster footage below.

Thankfully they did announce new Xbox Live features that will be in the next update due in fall, almost full voice recognition for everything on the Xbox. So with the sound of our voice we can control pretty much whatever we want on the Xbox. Also a really useful new feature will be cloud saves for your game saves, and your gamer profile. So no more gamertag recovering, we can just access our games saves and accounts from anywhere threw the cloud. Youtube was announced for the update as well, it will be fully intergrated into the xbox dashboard. Minecraft with kinect support was also announced for later this year.
As stated earlier when it comes to kinect it seems like most of the support is for the casual market, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing for the hardcore when it comes to kinect. Just announced was voice recognition for Mass Effect 3. This particularly looks useful not only for dialogue, but especially for giving your squad orders in combat. In the Demo they showed at the conference you could see how easy this feature was to use. Instead of pulling up that wheel to give different squad members orders, you aim where you would like them to go and tell them to go there. Or let’s say i want to tell garrus to attack an enemy with his sniper, i would simply move my aimer over the enemy and say “Garrus attack with sniper” or at least something to that effect. It looks very cool, but bioware has stated that this is by no means mandatory, you don’t have to use this feature at all. Check out the video below.

The other game that featured kinect support and appeals to the hardcore was Ghost Recon Future Soldier. This game has some really intuitive motion controls. In the E3 demo they showed off the ability to customize the hell out of weapons. They showed how the motions with your hands you can move different parts of the weapons with hand gestures, which looked very cool. Also they later showed the ability to aim a weapon threw the kinect with nothing but your hand gestures. It shows that there can be real application with the kinect for interesting things in games. Check out a little of what i’m talking about below.
There is a ton more info we will try to cover in the coming days for E3, enjoy.
